Cook Chicken Karahi Recipe
Chicken Karahi is a popular and flavorful dish. Here's a basic list of ingredients you'll need:
Ingredients:
Chicken: 1 kg, cut into pieces
Onions: 2 medium, finely chopped
Tomatoes: 3-4 medium, chopped or pureed
Green chilies: 2-3, slit
Ginger-garlic paste: 2 tablespoons
Yogurt: 1/2 cup (optional, for a richer flavor)
Coriander powder: 1 tablespoon
Cumin seeds: 1 teaspoon
Red chili powder: 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
Turmeric powder: 1/2 teaspoon
Garam masala: 1 teaspoon
Fresh coriander leaves: A handful, chopped
Salt: To taste
Oil: 3-4 tablespoons
Lemon juice: 1 tablespoon (optional, for a tangy flavor)
Method:
1. Heat Oil: In a large karahi (wok) or deep pan, heat the oil over medium heat.
2. Sauté Onions: Add the chopped onions and sauté until they become golden brown.
3. Add Ginger-Garlic Paste: Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and cook for a minute until the raw smell disappears.
4. Cook Chicken: Add the chicken pieces to the pan. Cook on medium-high heat until the chicken is browned on all sides.
5. Add Tomatoes: Add the chopped or pureed tomatoes. Stir and cook until the tomatoes break down and the oil starts to separate from the mixture.
6. Spice It Up: Add coriander powder, cumin seeds, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
7. Simmer: Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let it cook for about 20-30 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and tender. If using yogurt, stir it in at this point and let it cook for another 5 minutes.
8. Finish With Garam Masala: Add the garam masala and stir well. Cook for another 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
9. Garnish: Sprinkle chopped fresh coriander leaves on top and drizzle with lemon juice if using.
10. Serve: Serve hot with naan, roti, or rice.
Enjoy your Chicken Karahi!
